#18 Emil Hansen @ Continuum Industries

Emil is the Co-Founder and CTO of Edinburgh scale-up, Continuum Industries. Starting in 2016 as a university project, Continuum, are on a mission to accelerate the world's transition to renewable energy through their AI-powered infrastructure development platform.

The likes of Bill Gates and Arnold Schwarzenegger have been very vocal about the importance of building transmission line infrastructure and building the infrastructure that's going to get us through the next 100 years. The global engineering function across the globe cannot currently cater to the demand of reaching net zero by 2040, so Continuum are looking to address this. Currently, if you want to build a powerline, it takes around 10 years from saying "we really need this" to being at the point where someone can actually build it, then they actually need to build it. Continuum's innovative platform, Optioneer, strives to significantly shorten this 10-year timeframe, having managed to cut down the first year down from between 1 day (yes, ONE day) & 4 weeks. 1 day is obviously their best case scenario and more realistically, it'd be between 2-4 weeks. Nonetheless, their efforts are remarkable. They're now determined to further minimise the remaining duration of that 10-year period wherever feasible.

Emil talks about Continuum's journey up to this point including their recent Series A funding, their change in management structure and how it's been, being a first-time Founder.

It was fascinating to hear all about Optioneer and it sounds like Emil and Continuum are on to an absolute winner. Enjoy the episode!
